Professor Michael Daxner

Professor Michael Daxner gained his international experience in European and global Higher Education policy; he worked with the Association of European Universities, the Council of Europe, the International Association of Universities and the International Association of University Presidents and had projects in Europe, Israel, Latin America. After his tenure as a university president (1986-1998) he worked for UNMIK in Kosovo. His experience from the Balkans, Guatemala and, most recently, after 2003, Afghanistan have been decisive for his engagement in the Sociology of Conflict and the ethnological aspects of a Culture of Intervention. At present, Daxner teaches at the University of Oldenburg and the Free University of Berlin; he is the speaker of the research network on the Culture of Intervention (IK).

Professor Thorsten Bonacker

Thorsten Bonacker is Professor for Peace and Conflict Studies at the Center for Conflict Studies, University of Marburg. He is the coordinator of the Master programme in Peace and Conflict Studies. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Oldenburg. His research focuses on the sociology of international relations; this includes theories and methods of peace and conflict studies, conflict and peacebuilding in global context, and the role of human rights and NGOs in ethno-political conflicts.
In the context of research on cultures of intervention he is especially
interested in social post-intervention conflicts.

 

Irene Appelhagen

Irene Appelhagen, born in 1977, earned her M.A. degree at the University of Oldenburg in social and political sciences and gender studies. She has worked on political opinions in Serbia and gender issues in the Balkans.
Currently, she is working as an associate with the  research network Cultures of
Intervention
at the University of Oldenburg; she is responsible for the
coordination of the conference: Conflicts after Humanitarian Military Interventions, which will take place 18-19 April 2008 at the University of Potsdam, Germany.

 

Jan Free

Jan Free, M.A., born in 1980, has graduated from the University of Oldenburg
in 2007. His thesis was focused on a sociological interpretation of nationalism.
He has published on Zionism and the deconstruction of modern myths in the Balkans.
He has a teaching assignment there and has begun to prepare for a doctoral dissertation on a methodological and theoretical concept of a sociology
of interventions based on ethnological principles. He is the program director of the network Cultures of Intervention. 

 

Maike Schuessler

Maike Schuessler, born in 1974,  is a student assistant with the network Cultures of Intervention at the University of Oldenburg since 2004. She is about to complete her degree in psychology and her M.A. degree in social sciences. Her regions of special experience are Kosovo and Liberia.

 

Ursula Thiele

Ursula Thiele, born in 1980, is a student assistant with the network Cultures of Intervention at the University of Oldenburg since 2004. She is about to complete her degree in psychology and her M.A. degree in social science. Her regions of special experience are Kosovo and Liberia.
